Allen Harold Wyman



Allen Harold Wyman, 59, of Silver Lake, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, September 22 following a long illness.



Allen was born on June 5, 1956 in Hartford, Connecticut, the son of Jasper H. and Phyllis J. Wyman. He attended public schools in Tolland, Connecticut until his family moved to Maine in 1970. There he attended Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield and graduated in 1974 from Bangor Christian School, where he was a member of the basketball team. He attended the Bangor campus of the University of Maine.

Allen worked for 25 years at the Maine Fence Company in Pittsfield, where he earned the respect and affection of his co-workers for his diligence, work ethic and loyalty. In 2001, he moved to Silver Lake, Ohio, where he worked as a chef at the caf of Wayside Furniture in Akron, Ohio, one of the largest furniture stores in Ohio.

Allen was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing his whole life. He was also an enthusiastic collector of wildlife art and owned a wide assortment of prints and calendars. Allen enjoyed country music and was a fan of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard, as well as several more contemporary artists. A raconteur, Allen was noted for his keen mimicry and New England humor. He would often regale audiences with memorized recitations of stories and poetry. Allen also loved to cook and took particular pride in his signature chocolate chip cookies and pizza at the Wayside caf.


Allen had a passion for current events, politics and history. He often recorded documentaries about World War II and the Civil War. A sports enthusiast, he was a loyal fan of the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Cavaliers. There was hardly any professional sport he didn't follow


Allen is survived by his wife of 27 years, Marianne Feratto and a son, Abner Wyman, 22; two brothers, Jack (Beth) Wyman of Dallas, Texas and Michael Wyman of Detroit, Michigan; two sisters, Truly (Bill) Hough of Dallas, Texas and Connie (Dennis) Bodak of Torrington, Connecticut. He was the beloved brother-in-law of Annette and John Shaughnessy, Blaise J. Ferrato Jr. (deceased), Domenic (deceased) and Joy Pizzoferrato, Joseph Ferrato, Linda Ferrato, Patty and Klaus Ferrato-Kunzmann, Ellen Ferrato, John and Nancy Ferrato, Tina and Mark Ferrato-Furr, Ron Ferrato, and Ken and Heather Ferrato. He also leaves his nieces, nephews and the many friends and colleagues who loved and respected him and will dearly miss him.

Funeral service will be Sunday, September 27 at 11:00 am at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road (Route 91), Stow, Ohio 44224 where friends may call from 9 am until service time.
