Obituary of Anthony Thomas
STOW - Anthony "Tony" Thomas, 93, passed away September 2, 2016.
Born October 5, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio, Tony graduated from West Tech High School and entered into the military where he saw action in the Pacific campaign during World War II and received 2 Purple Hearts and 2 Bronze Stars serving his country.
After the war, Tony worked at Euclid Motors as a machinist. He then met and married his beloved, Evelyn and raised four children. They were happily married for over 50 years and enjoyed vacationing with their family in Myrtle Beach. Tony, Evelyn and their children were active in their Greek heritage and attended St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral. In the mid-1950s until his retirement, he owned and operated a confectionary, Olympia Candies, which grew to three successful locations. Throughout the years, friends and family came to call him the "Candy Man". Tony retired to spend more time with his loving wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who knew him as "Papa".
"Papa" will be greatly missed.
Preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; parents, James and Helen; sisters, Demetra, Viola and Mary, he is survived by children, Dean (Nancee), Marc (Keri), Paul (Kris), Joni (Rick); grandchildren, Jason, Sarah (Dan), Brynn, Heather (Tony), Chelsea, Katie (Luke), Mallorie, Hannah, Austin, Abby; and great-grandchildren, Madison, McKenzie and Hailey.
Friends are invited to Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Rd., Stow, Ohio for visitation Tuesday, September 6, 2016 from 5 to 9 PM during which a Trisagion service will take place. Father Stephen Callos will conduct a funeral service Wednesday at 10 AM at the funeral home. Burial, Silver Springs Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
