AKRON - Bonnie Lou Lyon passed away on Friday, August 28, 2026.
She was born on August 20, 1929, at Akron General Hospital to the late, Floyd and Marie Pontius.
Bonnie attended the University of Mount Union and later Akron University from 1948-1951 where she received a bachelor's degree. She was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. In 1954 Bonnie married Russell N. Sayers, and they had three children together. She later married George R. Lyon in July 1982, with whom she spent 39 years before his passing.
Bonnie worked for the Summit County Board of MRDD from 1967 until her retirement in 1989. During this time, she became proficient in sign language to assist her clientele. Bonnie was a member of PEO and at one time served as President. She was very social and enjoyed many activities including knitting, line dancing, card making, mahjong, jigsaw puzzles, wine and cheese nights. If there was fun to be had, she wanted to participate.
Bonnie is survived by her daughter Sandra Kay Lavin; stepchildren, Anne Karis Lyon, Thomas Rugh (Cheryl) Lyon, Mary Beth Lyon. She was preceded in death by her husband, George R. Lyon; sons, Doug Alan Sayers and David Lee Sayers.
Bonnie will join her husband, George Lyon at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
