Obituary of Boro J. Orsich

Boro Gerasim (Jerry) Orsich

STOW - On November 5th, 2017, Jerry's spirit returned to the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life, and he is now in the arms of Love.

Born and raised in south Akron, he had fond memories of growing up there: a beautiful, loving mother with three brothers and a sister in a loving home; selling papers under the Firestone clock tower as a young boy; winning the school's marble championship at the age of 13; playing to win silver dollars on a local radio station; caddying at Fairview Golf Course (and playing on caddies' day), and many more that warmed his heart.

Jerry attended Garfield High and the University of Akron, receiving a degree in electrical engineering. During his career he was employed by Firestone Tire & Rubber Company, Goodrich, and Uniroyal Goodrich. He continued to work in the capacity of professional consultant for many years following his retirement. His life's work always took second place to his love for, and devotion to, his wife and children.

During World War II, Jerry served his country in the European Theater of the war as a radio technician with the 75th Infantry Division during the Battle of the Bulge. He was commended with a bronze star, combat infantry badge, as well as numerous other medals and ribbons.

Jerry, an avid golfer who enjoyed sports, was a member of golf and bowling leagues most of his life. He also enjoyed a good game of poker with friends and brothers-in-law. Warm and intelligent with a sophisticated wit, he enjoyed their company as much as they enjoyed his.

A man of quiet faith, he was a member of Holy Family Parish in Stow for 51 years, and not a stranger to the table of the Lord. He had shown this daily in his capacity to love, his humility, faithfulness, loyalty, compassion, caring, thoughtfulness, kindness, quiet and gentlemanly ways; wisdom of generosity of spirit; living for others, and perseverance and hope in the face of adversity.

It was not in dying as much as leaving his dearest daughter Vivian, much-loved sons Steven, Cameron (Stacy), Timothy (Wendi), and Sam that saddened him. He loved, alike, grandchildren Nicole (Erik), great grandson Kalob, Jessica (Benjamin), great granddaughter Abbigail, Ryan (Leah), great granddaughter Lily, Robert (Christen), Sara (Corey), great granddaughter Madelyn, Jaccob, Emily (Cody), and Jordan.

Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, "Mamie" (Mary), grandson Jerrid, sister Stephanie, brother Samuel (Lois), Sam's daughter and dad's niece Kathy McCampbell, and brothers Louis and Milan, sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.

"No man is as tall as he who stoops to lift a child." You were a giant among men. Good Night, Sweet Prince. Mass of the Christian Burial Friday 10 AM at Holy Family Parish in Stow, Father Paul Rosing celebrant. Calling hours will be held Thursday 4 to 7 PM at Redmon Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
