AKRON – Chuck Checked Out on August 30, 2026.

Charles “Chuck” E. Hayes was born December 8, 1952, in Akron to the late John and Helen Hayes. He was a lifelong resident of Akron. Chuck was a proud U.S. Army veteran, having served honorably as a helicopter door gunner, during the Vietnam War (1971-1972). He was, also, an active member of the DAV. Chuck had been employed with Cuyahoga Falls City School District as a custodian, retiring in 2008. He was a member and business agent for Local 1 SEIU.

He enjoyed golfing with his brother Don and his dad. Chuck was a jokester and prankster who loved to make everyone laugh, because he always said, “laughter is the best medicine”. He was a lifelong avid fan of the Cleveland sports teams (he always held out faith for the Browns). Chuck was a member of the Cuyahoga Falls Campers club for over 40 years, where he served as president for the past 5 years. Chuck was a member of the Clan Hay Society US branch, where he was awarded the title of Convenor for Ohio. Chuck’s greatest prides were his Scottish heritage, his military service, and his friends.

He loved his daughter and grandkids with his whole heart and was proud of their accomplishments. But most importantly he was devoted and loved being married to his loving wife, Georgia Hayes of 51 years. He would always tell and write to her “.... till the sun no longer shines and the winds no longer blow, remember always, I love you.”

Preceded in death by parents, John and Helen Hayes, he is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Georgia Hayes; daughter, Tina (Tommy) Barnett; grandchildren, Kelsee, Kyler; sister, Theresa Lacause; brothers, Jack Hayes, Donnie Hayes, Jim Hayes; special friends, Tom and Vicki Nicol; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Fr. Chris Weber will conduct service 9 AM Friday, September 4, 2026, at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow, OH 44224. Friends may call 4 PM to 7 PM, Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the funeral home. Burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
