Cora was born in Bemis (Jackson), Tennessee where she grew up picking cotton with her family. Before finishing high school, Cora moved to Detroit to live with her Aunt Goldie and Uncle George to continue her high school education. While in Detroit, Cora met Jack who had also moved to Detroit from Tennessee. Before their relationship could get too serious, Cora moved back to Tennessee. Soon after that, Jack borrowed a car and found his way to Tennessee where he proposed to Cora and brought her back to Detroit to be married.

Cora married Jack in 1953 and within 3 years gave birth to sons Johnny and Sammy and then moved to Ohio. They lived for a short time in Kent before moving to Stow in 1958. During their first 6 years in Stow, Joey and Danny were born. Cora and Jack were active members of First Baptist Church of Stow until it closed in 2011. They continued to worship at Mission Baptist Temple in Stow. Cora was a dedicated homemaker who enjoyed cooking all of her favorite Tennessee dishes and also traveling and camping in their RV visiting nearly all of the lower 48 states. In 2023 they moved to their retirement home in Cuyahoga Falls.
