Obituary of Dave P. McMillen

Dave P. McMillen, 90, died on April 10, 2019. He was born on Dec. 9, 1928.

Dave grew up in Boston Township and later, Stow, Ohio. He began his career as a volunteer fireman while he was still attending Stow High School. He also worked at Stow Hardware. He married his high school sweetheart, Eleanor McClaren, in 1950 and fiveweeks later, was drafted into the Army and fought in the Korean War. He became a full time fireman at age 21, and became Stow Fire Chief in 1970. He retired in 1982, bought Cherokee Park Campground, and began running it with the help of Eleanor and their son, Dave.

He was preceded in death by his mother Dortha (Stanford), father Ernest McMillen, and step-mother, Martha, grandparents Perkins and Stella Stanford, infant daughter Janet Beth, and brother William. In addition to his wife, Dave is survived by daughters Donna, Debra (Jim), Linda (Steve), and son Dave (Kris); fifteengrandchildren, David, Debbie (Dave), Sarah (Ryan), Joe, Tim, Diane (Will), Paul (Tori), Dan (Karen), Steve (Shelby), Jon, Jessica, Bob, Kayla, Kate, Rick; eightgreat-grandchildren, Alex, Cora, Owen, Jack, Emmett, Lucas, Isaac, Emily; sister, Ann (Ralph) and brother, Richard (Sherri).

Friends may call from 6-8 pm Friday, April 12 at Redmon Funeral Home in Stow. Funeral service at 11 am Saturday, April 13 with Pastor James Case officiating. Burial will be at Crown Hill.

Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stow or Brimfield Fire Departments.
