Donald H. Kinney, 81, passed away Saturday, August 25th, 2018. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, he was a member of Christ Woodland United Methodist Church. He worked as a mechanical engineer for many years, a small business owner of his own photography business, and retired from his final job at Akron Children's Hospital where he continued as a volunteer. He later continued his love of baseball as a coach at CVCA.
He is preceded in death by parents Tom (Grace) and Margaret Kinney and son, Donald H. Kinney, Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Connie; children Kathleen (Jeff) Kier, Gregg (Kelly) Kinney, Brett Kinney, Christopher Kinney, Kevin Kinney, Duane (Beth) Kinney, Dawn (Tom) Shaheen, Elizabeth (Tim) Mock, Dean (Jenny) Lewis; grandchildren Jennifer, Michelle, Kayla, Ashley, Sara, GT, Tricia, Paige, Alec M., Alec S., Becca, Sydney, Brooke, Seth, Tyler, Matthew, Marissa, Elizabeth and seven great- grandchildren.
Donald played minor league baseball for a few years and had the privilege of being called to the majors for one game with the Cincinnati Reds. He played behind Johnny Bench the whole time. He was an avid sports fan and loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Indians. Donald's pride and joy were his family. Nothing made him happier than spending time with his wife, ten children, eighteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to the Redmon Funeral Home for visitation Saturday from 1 to 3 PM, where service will be conducted Saturday 3 PM.
