Obituary

Stow, Ohio — Edward Arthur Landis, 94, passed away peacefully in the early morning of October 13, 2026.

Born in Akron and raised in Hudson and Stow, Ed graduated from Stow Munroe Falls High School. Shortly afterward, he served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, both stateside and at Atsugi Naval Air Base in Japan. While in Japan, he played baseball alongside American and Japanese players.

After his honorable discharge, Ed completed his bricklaying apprenticeship and went on to own his own masonry construction company. He took great pride in the buildings he and his fellow workers built throughout Ohio and Illinois. Ed never had an official retirement date and could still be seen with a trowel in his hand well into his 80s.

Ed enjoyed basketball, baseball, fishing, painting, ships and boats, and had a passion for United States and military history. He was an active member of the First Christian Church of Stow for 50 years, where his brickwork remains part of his lasting legacy.

Above all, Ed was a family man. He was very close to his parents and six siblings. The night he met Marilyn Virginia Smith, he knew he was going to marry her. She remained the love of his life until his death. Marilyn preceded him in death in 2011.

Ed is survived by his two daughters, Lori (Michael) Bird and Susan (Tony) Falcione; four grandchildren, Anthony (Delaney), Falcione, Christopher Falcione, Ethan Bird and Caroline Bird; his brother, Daniel Landis of Bay Village, Ohio; and his sister, Shirley Frandsen of Sun City, Arizona. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews and their children.

Ed traveled extensively with his daughters, their husbands and his grandchildren, sharing experiences and making memories they will always treasure. His impact on their lives is too deep to put into words.

The family is planning a small celebration of Ed’s life. If you would like to attend, please contact Lori Bird or Susan Falcione.
