Munroe Falls - George Donald Christen, 83, was welcomed home by his Heavenly Father on November 13, 2013. He was reunited with his beloved wife Barbara. "The first girl I ever really chased."
George was born on September 20, 1930, in Canton, Ohio, to the late George and Julia (Bogdanski) Christen. After graduating, he served four years in the U.S. Navy. He married Barbara Shaver on December 8, 1956. They lived in Munroe Falls most of their lives where they raised four children. George worked hard to provide for his family. He retired from Carter Jones Lumber Company in 1998 after 30 years of service.
George was preceded in death by his loving wife, parents, and brother Louis Christen. He is survived by his children, Julie (Marty) Whims, Becky Christen, Linda (Eric) Prange, and George T. Christen; brother, Tom Christen; Sister, Loretta Formby; grandchildren, Martin II (Dawn) Whims, Brian Whims, Erica Prange, and Caleb Prange; great-grandchildren, Jacoby, Zachary and Ryan.
Despite the hardships he faced, due to declining health, George always tried to present a sweet spirit of patience and appreciation for those who cared for him. George's family wishes to thank New Horizon's Adult Day Care (located at Summa Western Reserve Hospital) for the seven years of cheerful, loving care they provided to him.
Friends are invited for visitation from 4-7 PM on Sunday, November 17, at Redmon Funeral Home, where Pastor Jerry Witt will conduct service on Monday at 11:00 AM. Burial Northlawn Memorial Gardens. If friends desire, memorials may be made to the Haven of Rest, P.O. Box 547, Akron, OH 44398-6110.
