STOW – Houston R. Morgan, Sr., 98, passed away August 20, 2026.

A son of the late Herbert Whinzer and Mary Margaret Morgan, he was born April 17, 1928 in Akron. He grew up in Silver Lake, spending many hours in the outdoors that he loved. He was a proud graduate of Stow High School class of 1946, Western Reserve University and Ohio State College of Pharmacy. He was employed as a pharmacist for over 50 years and was a resident of Stow since 1957.

Houston was a lifelong member of the Boy Scouts, attaining Eagle Scout rank and going on to become an adult leader for many scouts to follow. He was a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow. He also received many scouting awards including District Award of Merit, the George C Eisenman Award, Silver Beaver Award and Outstanding Eagle Award from the National Eagle Scout Association. He earned his Wood Badge Beads in 1982. Houston took many scouts on adventures to Florida Sea Base, Tinnerman Canoe Base, Maine High Adventure Base, Cass RR in West Virginia and especially Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM. He spent countless nights at Camp Manatoc as a youth, staff member and adult leader.

In addition to his scouting endeavors, Houston & his beloved wife Marylee especially enjoyed traveling with their family in their 1963 Corvair Greenbrier van. Loading the van with camping gear, they camped extensively across the country including a month long adventure in 1965 to Philmont Scout Ranch, Grand Canyon, Great Salt Lake, Yellowstone and the Tetons. Houston remained the proud owner of his Greenbrier and later joined the Friends of Corvair Club, delighting in sharing his memories with members and admirers alike.

Houston also made many trips to photograph & sound record the logging engines at Cass Scenic Railroad, often bringing family, friends and scouts with him.

Houston and Marylee were active members of the Stow Historical Society volunteering for many events, with a special devotion to apple butter stirring at the annual Harvest Festival.

He was the Grand Marshall of the Stow Fourth of July Parade in 1990 and 2010, was on the Stow Parks and Recreation Board for many years and was a lifetime member of Sigma Chi.

Preceded in death by his cherished wife, Marylee Risinger Morgan, he is survived by his children, Marianne (Fred) Johnson, Houston R. (Rhonda) Morgan Jr., Margaret (Bill) Ramsey, Meredith (Dave Herbster) Morgan, Marilyn Hunter, Howard (Liz Bray) Morgan; grandchildren, Dave (Eleanore) Ramsey, Alan (Lauren) Ramsey, Ben Delaney, Ana Hunter, former granddaughter-in-law Allison Gillen Delaney; great-grandchildren, Ireland and Jeremiah Delaney, Eve and Willa Ramsey and Charlotte Ramsey; sister-in-law, Annabel

Dr. David Weyrick will conduct service at 7 PM Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow, OH 44224. Friends may call 4 PM to 7 PM, Wednesday, prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Stow Historical Society, P.O. Box 1425, Stow, OH 44224, or Great Trail Council, Scouting America (noted: Camp Manatoc Reservation) 4500 Hudson Drive, Stow, OH 44224.

A Celebration of Life for Houston’s scouting family will be held at the Camp Manatoc Dining Hall on Saturday, September 19th from 1:00 to 3:00 PM with service at 3:00. Scouts are encouraged to wear their uniforms and Houston’s hand-carved neckerchief slides.
