Obituary

Stow, OH – James M. Costello, 77, passed away on July 18, 2026.

Born in Washington DC, Jim was a resident of Stow, Ohio, for 47 years. He proudly served in the United States Navy for 30 years, retiring with the rank of Chief. During his military career, he was employed by Struktol Chemical Company for more than 25 years as a purchasing manager.

Jim dedicated many years to public service, serving on Stow City Council for 17 years. He also served as interim mayor for six months and as Finance Director for four years. Throughout his life, he was actively involved in the community, including Cub Scouts, Little League, and serving as a band parent.

In retirement, Jim found his greatest joy in attending his grandchildren's activities and being their devoted "Gruber" (Grandparent Uber). He was a faithful member of Christ Community Chapel. Jim was an avid reader, enjoyed his time outdoors, camping, driving his golf cart and spending time on the boat with his family.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Don Costello; his mother, Nancy Costello; his in-laws, Gertrude and Marion Rossman; and his brothers-in-law, Sam Wagner and David Brysacz.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Sandy; his sister, Sue (Jim) Moser; his sons, Chad (Jennifer) and Christian (Melissa); his grandchildren, Liddia (Patrick), Gavin (Hannah), Rileigh, Caylie, Cole, and Landon; his great-grandchildren, Knox and Aiden; his sisters-in-law, Kathy Wagner and Sue Brysacz; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend to many.

Pastor Mark Lile will conduct the funeral service on Tuesday, July 28, at 3:00 p.m., with calling hours preceding from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Christ Community Chapel, 750 W. Streetsboro St., Hudson, OH 44236.
