SILVER LAKE - James (Jim) F. Hurd, 85, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026.
Born in Akron, Ohio, on October 27, 1940, to parents, Frank and Nina Hurd. He was a resident of Silver Lake for 50 years.
Jim graduated from Stow High school in 1958. After graduating from high school, he attended Kent State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1962. Jim was also a United States Army Reservist.
In 1964, Jim married his soulmate, Joan Idle.
He was employed by Allstate/PIE, (Trucking Company), until 1970. He then transferred to Trenton, NJ, where he took a job with the IBM Corporation. They relocated to Cleveland and then eventually returned to Silver Lake where he retired in 1991, at the age of 52.
After retirement, Jim pursued flying lessons. After approximately 50 flying hours, he determined the world would be a safer place if he stayed on the ground. Jim was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls and enjoyed gardening, golfing and woodworking in his free time.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Joan (Idle), and his parents, Frank and Nina Hurd.
He is survived by his daughters, Susan (Keith) Yeary and Karen (Dugan); grandchildren, Robert (Caitlin) Yeary, Lauren (Yeary), Emma, Stephen, and Amy (Hlad), as well as his great-grandson, Asher.
A graveside service will be held Friday, February 13, 2026, at 2 PM, at Stow Cemetery, 3162 Kent Road, Stow, Ohio 44224.
