James M. Wharton

d. June 30, 2018

James M. Wharton, III passed away suddenly on June 30 at the age of 71. He was a loving son, brother, devoted uncle, and a friend to many. He always had a kind and supportive word and cared so much about others, especially family. Additionally, he was a great dad to his dogs.

A lifelong resident of Tallmadge, he graduated from Tallmadge High School in 1965. He joined the U.S. Army in July 1967, spending two years stationed in Germany. Upon his return to the States, he worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber as a tire builder until production ceased in the late 1970's. He then moved on to new computer technology working with ADT in security and analysis until his retirement for health reasons.

Jim was an avid bowler, competing in many leagues during the last 40 years. He was a frequent participant at Midway Lanes, Bill White Bowling Center and Twin Star Lanes among others. He was blessed to make many friends at the lanes over the years.

He was preceded in death by his mother Marjorie Wharton, father James Wharton, Jr., brothers Robert and Michael Wharton, sister-in-law Lois Wharton, nephew Aaron Wharton and niece Tara Lyons.

He is survived by his brother Ronald Wharton of Columbus and sister Sheila (Allan) Lyons of Stow. Also surviving are his loving nieces and nephews Ryon (Jamie) Wharton of Naperville, IL, Nathan Lyons and Brooke Lyons of Stow, Traci (Daniel) Hippich of Green, Lora Wharton of Akron, Jason (Tasha) Wharton of Dayton, Christine (Christopher) Martin of Dayton and Katie Wharton of Dayton. Also, great nieces and nephews Lauryn and Jack Wharton of Naperville, Carly and Benjamin Hippich of Green, Jacob Weese of Coshocton and Nicholas (Summer) Weese of Carrollton, Leeta Wharton of Akron, Caleb and Cauline Martin of Dayton, Anna Wharton of Dayton and Payton Smith of Stow.

We also wish to send a special thank you to his mailman, Michael Sterling, the Tallmadge Police Department, and his neighbor, Brenda White.
