Jim was born inElkhart, Indiana toKenneth and Margaret (Kreighbaum) Meeker onMay 20, 1929. He attended
Elkhart High School
and graduated in
1948
. He worked in commercial window sales for
Adlake (Adams & Westlake) and also at the Goldberg's men's clothing store in Elkhart
and then for Fred J. Crisp Inc. in Akron from 1968 until his retirement in 1994.
He married the former Lois Wilkinson on May 15, 1948 and they would have celebrated 71 years of marriage later this month. They enjoyed traveling, including trips to Germany and Russia. They ha
ve
resided at Mulberry Gardens in Munroe Falls for the past
four
years.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls and the Wesley Sunday School Class. He enjoyed
playing golf and was a member of the United Methodist Men's Wednesday Night Golf League for more than 40 years. He also bowled for many years with the church's bowling league and was a volunteer tutor at Newberry Elementary School in Cuyahoga Falls through the former OASIS program.
He enjoyed carpentry and building things, including their house in Elkhart. He also enjoyed playing board games and card games with his grandchildren and later with great-gran
d
children, and attending his granddaughters' concerts and sporting events.
Jim
is survived by his wife, Lois, of Munroe Falls; sons, Steven (Renie) Meeker of New Castle, Delaware and Vince (Marty) Meeker of Akron; daughter, Marsha McKenna of Cuyahoga Falls;
seven
granddaughters:
Amy (Chuck) Johns of Bear, Delaware; Stacy (Joe) Gandia of Bear, Delaware; Becky (Jeff) Doyle of West Chester, Pennsylvania;
Jennifer McKenna of Cuyahoga Falls; Karen McKenna of Mansfield; Kelly (Jonah Robinson) McKenna of Wilmington, N. Carolina; and Melissa (Jason Hazelett) McKenna of Uniontown;
and 15
great-grandchildren: Paul, James and Mark Appleby of Cuyahoga Falls;
Emily and Alison Johns of Bear, Delaware; Gabriella and Elise Gandia of Bear, Delaware;
Elaina and Carter Helton and Noah Hazelett of Uniontown; Odin and Evelyn Sombrio of Mansfield;
Gareth Doyle of West Chester, Pennsylvania;
and Coralie and Annamarie Robinson of Wilmington, N. Carolina. He is preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Karen; and brother, William Meeker.
Cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to a time of visitation at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow, on Saturday, May 18 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. A private memorial service will be held for the family earlier that day. Memorial donations may be made to
the First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls 44221.
