CUYAHOGA FALLS - Jane Ruth Davis (nee Sloan), 91, of Cuyahoga Falls, gave up the fight and went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on December 22, 2025.
Jane, or Grandma, Granny, or Gigi, was the heart and soul of the Davis family, offering unconditional love, a playful wit, and tons of good old home cooking to everyone who entered the beloved home she built with the love of her life, Jack Davis. Jane had a way of making sure every person in her life felt special and loved.
Whether a child, a grandchild, a great-grandchild, spouse, friend, cousin, sister, or brother, all of those around her were met with the same genuine warmth and affection. Her family and friends were the focal points of her life, and she excelled at making those around her glad to know her.
Jane began her life in Albany, Kentucky, daughter of James and Monte Sloan. She was one of twelve children, three sisters and eight brothers, all of whom she remained close to through all her years. The Sloan family moved to Akron for work in the 1940s, and spread out throughout the area, with Jane herself working in produce at various Akron grocery stores. She was, as to be expected, hard-working and reliable.
It was through these early years, then into parenthood and retirement, that she and Jack built what is the definition of a "home" in Cuyahoga Falls, a place where everyone was welcomed and loved. Her kids, their kids, and all connected to the family forever popped in and out, knowing they would receive a warm welcome, a good story, a few laughs, and often great country cooking. As Jane said, “Our family loves to eat.” She and Jack were always happiest during pool days, surrounded by people she loved and her beautiful flowers.
Jack passed away in 2002, but Jane’s home continued as the center of activity for the many people she touched. Holidays were always filled with family, and her kitchen table was often visited by old friends, new friends, church friends, and relatives of every age. There was never a stranger at Jane’s house. Through her actions, she demonstrated the true meaning of caring for one another. Her life was the love of her family, and the depth of that love will carry on for years to come.
Jane is survived by three daughters, Sally (Craig) Johnson, Cathy (Dave) Davis, and Meredith Davis. She was preceded in death by her son, Donny (Maggie), with their surviving daughter, Stephanie (Jason) Thoenen, who really filled the role of a fourth daughter. Her six additional surviving, loving grandchildren, are Elizabeth (Chris) Farrell, Lauren (Matt) Ritzinger, Kathryn (Seth) Schwed, Rachel (AJ) Skifstad, Madison (Blake) Jones, Keegan Lind (fiancé Maria Englehart), and fifteen great-grandchildren.
It was easy to see the love she provided to others by the love given her in her last days by each one of these people. This was a good life, well lived, a life to be celebrated! She will be missed so very much.
