Obituary of John F. Long

John F. Long of Stow, Ohio died peacefully November 25th, 2017 at the age of 95.

John most recently was a resident of The Village of St. Edwards in Fairlawn, Ohio. John is survived by his wife of 68 years Therese Long, son John (Janet) Long, daughter Mary Long Merendino, son Mark Long and son Edward (Beth) Long. He is also survived by his grandchildren Frank (Julie) Merendino, John (Jayne) Long, Theresa (Matt) Gorbach, Josh Merendino (Colleen Ryan), Elizabeth (Brandon) Case, Jackson Long, Grace Long and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers Ted (Margaret) Long, Bill (Peggy) Long, sisters Patricia (Stan) Najway and Nancy Mondozzi. John was preceded in death by his parents John H. and Dorothy Long and step-mother Ann Long, as well as infant son Joseph.

John was born on August 4, 1922 in Akron, Ohio. He graduated from Buchtel High School and The University of Akron. After graduation he was employed by Polsky's Department Store then Gutman's Women's Wear. John set a goal for himself of someday owning his own business. This came to be in 1969 when he opened Long's Shoes. John served the Stow community through many clubs and organizations. He was also a long time active member of Holy Family Parish.

Calling hours will be Friday 4 to 8 PM at Redmon Funeral Home. Mass of the Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday December 2nd at 11:30 AM at Holy Family Parish, Fr. Paul Rosing celebrant. Burial Holy Cross Cemetery.
