John Hudson Reginald's Obituary

STOW - John Hudson Reginald, age 69, of Stow, Ohio, passed away on March 26, 2026. He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply.

John was the devoted husband to Carol Welfare Reginald, the love of his life for more than 45 years. Together they raised a close, supportive family. John was the proud father of Kelly Reginald (Chris) Hydeck, Lindsay Reginald (Scott) Smith, Lauren Reginald (Brian) Pauley, Courtney Reginald (Brian) Sari, and Bryan (Shannon) Reginald. He was a loving “Papa” to his grandchildren, John Joseph Hydeck, Carter Smith, Cole Smith, Brady Pauley, Riley Pauley and Gavin Sari, and he took great joy in being part of their lives.

He is also survived by his siblings Nancy Scott, Barbara (Volker) Scott and Robert (Jackie) Scott, as well as a large extended family and many lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Reginald and Grace Scott; his stepfather, Dr. Kenneth W. Scott; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marjorie and Richard Welfare.

John was born February 13, 1957, in Akron, Ohio, and grew up in Silver Lake. After graduating from Cuyahoga Falls High School, John went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in early childhood education and Master of Arts and Education Specialist degrees in school psychology from Kent State University. He began his career as a school psychologist and later spent 38 years as a distinguished sales leader in the educational assessment industry with Data Recognition Corporation (formerly CTB/McGraw-Hill), retiring in 2019.

John could often be found listening to his favorite band The Allman Brothers; maintaining his beautiful, meticulous yard; relaxing and grilling on his patio; enjoying a drink from his extensive collection of bourbon and single-malt scotches; or cheering for his favorite Ohio sports teams, especially Ohio State football. In recent years, he embraced new adventures, including hiking, learning to play the drums and mastering the perfect Ooni pizza. But his favorite pastime, by far, was simply spending time with his family, his greatest joy and blessing.

John was known for his captivating storytelling, ever-present sense of humor, thoughtful and expert advice and the ability to solve almost any problem. He lived his life with intention, integrity and love. His impact lives on most profoundly through the family he loved and the many lives he touched. He will be missed greatly.

A memorial service celebrating John’s life will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1361 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44313, on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
