Joseph A. Denton

MUNROE FALLS - Joseph A. Denton, 87, of Munroe Falls, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on April 28, 2025.

He was born in Akron, Ohio, on July 3,1937. Joe was a proud 1955 graduate of North High School where he participated in football, basketball, and baseball, was president of Student Council, and the recipient of the Manhood Award. He continued his education at Kent State University where he played baseball in his freshman year and earned both his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in education. He began his high school football coaching career while in college at age 19.

Joe's first teaching job was at Coventry High School where he also coached football. Joe coached men's basketball at Kent State - Wadsworth Branch. He taught and coached football at Hudson High School, where he was named 1975 Summit County Coach of the Year. In addition, he taught and coached football at Stow High School.

After retiring with 30 years of teaching, Joe went on to complete all the requirements to become a PGA professional. He coached boys' golf at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy and Walsh Jesuit High School, and girls' golf at Stow-Munroe Falls High School. He also began the Women's Golf program at Cleveland State University. Joe was the Assistant Golf Professional at The Sharon Golf Club in Sharon Center, Ohio, for 25 years.

At Stow High School, Joe and Jeannie Rorabaugh became friends and married on June 22, 1985, spending nearly 40 years creating a beautifully blessed life together. Joined together were three sons, Joe E. (deceased) (Marsha), Jay (Anastassia), and Scotte Rorabaugh (Amy). Joe and Jeannie were blessed with three grandchildren, Rami Denton, Walker Rorabaugh, and Nina Rorabaugh. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Emma; his sister, Pat Miller, and his first wife, Janice.

Joe's faith guided his daily actions. His life was directed by faith, family, friends, football, and golf. Joe loved worshipping at church, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, participating in activities and conversations with friends, and coaching and watching football and golf. His coaching career lasted for 64 years, into his 80s, making lasting friendships with players and coaches alike.

Friends are invited to Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow 44224, for visitation on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 5 to 8 PM, and where services will be held, Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 11 AM. Private burial Silver Springs Cemetery.
