MENTOR - Joseph J. Kois, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, passed away quietly with family at his bedside to rejoin his wife, Bernardine, who commenced her journey in 2021.
“Farmer Joe,” as he was known to his many Mentor area produce customers, was passionate about his garden and orchard, spending long hours caring for the trees and plants that produced so much fruit, vegetables and garlic. If customers saw the garage door up, they knew to pull in, blow the horn, or ring the farm bell, and he would emerge from the garden. Joe also enjoyed deer hunting in northwest Pennsylvania and golfing with his wife and friend group. Joe was active in the Knights of Columbus as a fourth degree Knight who had served as Grand Knight.
Joe was born in McClellandtown, PA, a first generation American, one of fourteen children from Polish immigrant parents, Anna and George. He proudly served in the United States Navy in the Sea Bees construction battalion.
Surviving Joe are his son, Bernie Kois (Beth) of Walworth, NY; daughter, Barb Warfield (Rich) of Hudson, OH, and grandchildren, Sarah Kois, Abby Kois, Chris Warfield and Emily Jackson (Lucas). Joe was preceded in death by his infant son, and twelve of Joe’s thirteen sisters and brothers. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A private ceremony will take place and a celebration of life gathering will occur at a later date. Arrangements were made by Redmon Funeral home in Stow, OH.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in Joseph's honor be directed to your local Veterans' Outreach Center, 17 Colonial Drive, Youngstown, OH 44505, DAV - Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301, or similar Veterans' organizations.
