CUYAHOGA FALLS - We celebrate the life of June Dekar, who peacefully moved to her heavenly home on July 26, 2026, at the age of 91. She was born in Belleville, New Jersey on June 26, 1935, to Dr. Joseph and Edith Anderten.

June graduated from Ridgewood High School, then went on to study at LaSalle Junior College before earning her degree in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), in New York. She worked as a Fashion Designer at Bow Age, a children’s clothing design house in New York City. She was also a wonderful seamstress and would make prom gowns for family and would add eye-catching details to clothing that needed some spark.

Passions over the years included sewing, watercolor painting, and pen and ink drawings. Besides spending time in her art room and making notes, she could also often be found in her kitchen cooking up all kinds of dishes. It seemed like she was always busy on some list of to-dos.

She and Walt traveled extensively with friends and family at any chance they could—-to Europe, on cruises and around the US to visit family and friends. Their annual trip to Hawaii for the month of January continued for 20 years. Their circle of family and friends enjoyed many, many joyful, social activities over the years.

As a member of Endwell United Methodist Church, she was involved in her women’s circle, and the annual church bazaar. She served as a weekly volunteer for Broome County Meals on Wheels for over 35 years.

She loved all kinds of music, especially country music and opera. She loved going to the Tri-Cities Opera in Binghamton, NY with Walt or her sister Barb.

June is survived by her two sisters; Rue Brodbeck and Barbara Cecala. Children; Caryl Moore (Wilbur), Greg Seifert (Jeanne), Bob Dekar, Kathy Taylor (Ed) and Charlie Dekar (Roni). Eight grandchildren – Lindsey Kiely (Brian), Nick Dekar (Kirsti), Mary Claire Dekar (Jay), Chris Taylor (Racheal), Ian Seifert (Evie), Erin Seifert-Jones (Chris), Emily Seifert (Garrison) and Christian Moore. Last but not least, are the eleven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and their families. She was pre-deceased by her first husband, Robert Seifert, and by her second husband, Walt Dekar.

Our family gives sincere thanks to all the dear caregivers at Sunrise of Cuyahoga Falls and Southern Care Hospice for loving “June-bug” as well. The staff of The Willows and the caregivers from Assisting Hands, both in Raleigh North Carolina, also deserve the highest praises. While we know she has gone to a better place, we are equally positive that she is making sure everyone uses the proper utensils and puts their napkin in their laps.

A celebration of life will be held in the fall in Ohio.
