CUYAHOGA FALLS - Marlene K. Mercurio, lovingly remembered by all who knew her, was born on October 18, 1939, in Akron, OH.
She gently departed from this world to embrace the eternal peace of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 25, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth that touched everyone she met. With a heart full of kindness, Marlene journeyed through life living in places like Sandusky, OH, Mt. Dora, FL and Ashland, OH, each holding special memories that echoed her vibrant spirit.
A proud graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School and Heidelberg College, where she majored in elementary education, Marlene dedicated her life to teaching and nurturing young minds. She didn’t stop there; her passion for education led her to Ashland College, where she earned further certification to help children with learning disabilities. Throughout her career, she made a meaningful difference in the lives of countless students and adults while working in the Ashland City Schools, Falls Savings Bank and Swift First Aid.
Marlene cherished her time at the First United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls where she was a member and also found comfort and inspiration in the services at Grace Cathedral, where her beloved son, Rev. Steven Millar, shared his own journey of faith. In her final years, her connection to the Lord was evident in the love she spread among her family and friends, reinforcing the bonds that many held dear.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, William P. Wright and Doris (Beck) Wright, of Silver Lake, OH; her sister, Kathleen (Wright) Petrone, of Fort Myers, FL, and her beloved husband, Augustus Mercurio, of Cuyahoga Falls, OH.
She will sadly be missed by her daughter, Valerie (David) Helmstetter of Cleveland, TN; sons, Reverend Steven (Catherine) Millar of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Matthew (Deana) Millar of Bradenton, FL and Douglas (Shylaja) Millar of Redwood City, CA; step-sons, Michael Mercurio of The Colony, TX, Paul (Monica) Mercurio of Dublin, OH, David (Matilda) Mercurio of St. Cloud, MN and John (Kathy) Mercurio of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren, Matthew Helmstetter of Dayton, OH, Drew (Claire Cozens) Helmstetter of Cleveland, TN, Haylee Millar of Bradenton, FL and Deklan Millar of Redwood City, CA; step-grandchildren, Lalith Aditya Deveraj of Bangalore, India and Dheeraj Deveraj of Redwood City, CA; three great-grandchildren; brother, Bruce (Mary Helen) Wright of Silver Lake, OH; sister, Valerie (Timothy) Morrison of Silver Lake, OH, and many nieces and nephews.
Private services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
