Mary Ann (Burkley) Wojno, 94, died peacefully at home March 22, 2018. She was born in Akron, Ohio on April 28, 1923 to the late Clement J. and Teresa (Kraus) Burkley.
She was a graduate of East High School, Buchtel College and Kent State University where she earned a Masters Degree in Education.
Mary Ann will be remembered for her enthusiasm for life, her deep faith and her devotion to the Blessed Mother. Mary Ann loved young people and teaching at St. Vincent - St. Mary High School, where she taught math and her Philosophy of Life class. She also was a math instructor at the University of Akron. She was a fervent Notre Dame football fan which she passed on to her children and grandchildren.
On August 5, 1950, Mary Ann married Joseph N. Wojno. She was an active member of Holy Family Parish.
Joe predeceased her on March 15, 1988. Mary Ann is survived by her daughters Jane (Bob) Rafferty, MJ Wojno, and her sons William (Bonnie) and Stephen (Jim Oblak); her grandchildren Robert (Allison), Brian (Christine), Joseph (Darla), Daniel and Patrick (Stephanie) Rafferty, Daniel (Ashley Niedringhaus), Kaitlin (Matt Demarchi), Julianne (Alex Ohlemacher) Wojno; her great grandchildren Robert, Samuel, Paul, Olivia, Connell, Declan, Teresina, Frankie, Angelo, Sadie and Aiden Rafferty; one sister Rosalind (late Edward) Maher; sisters-in-law Betty (late John) Burkley, Sally (late Ralph) Burkley, Marge (late Thomas) Burkley and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother Clem and sister Marge and her husband Dick Mack, and nieces Betsy Mack and Sister Terry Burkley.
Friends may call Monday, March 26, 2018 from 4 to 7 PM at Redmon Funeral Home in Stow. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday March 27, 2018 at 10 AM at Holy Family Church in Stow, with Reverend Paul J. Rosing officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.
Mary Ann's family would like to extend special and heartfelt thanks for the compassionate and loving care given to her by First Light Home Care professionals Heather, Tayia and Rachel. Also, the family wishes to thank Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, Walsh Jesuit High School or Holy Family Parish.
