Richard L. Buchanan

Richard Lee Buchanan, age 84, of Hudson, Ohio, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2015, at The Elms of Hudson.

Richard was born July 9, 1931, in Tippecanoe, Ohio, to parents Wilson and Mary (Cunningham) Buchanan. His family lived in Cadiz and Edinburgh, and he graduated from Kent State University in 1957. He taught elementary school for three years before working as a mortgage broker in Cleveland. From 1979 onward, he built properties in Ohio and, through his efforts, established more than a dozen developments of senior affordable housing accommodating more than 15,000 people to date. He liked sailing, golfing and spending time with friends, as well as traveling and reading, especially American history.

Richard is survived by his wife, Lucille (Kline) Buchanan and their children, Linda, Cynthia and Mark; as well as his brother Wilfred. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Walter, Stanley, James and Robert; and sisters, Margie, Evelyn, Betty and Dorothy.

Friends will be received for visitation at 10:00 AM Thursday, October 1, 2015, at the Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow. Pastor Gerald Kalb will officiate the funeral service at 11:00 AM, and the interment will then follow at Standing Rock Cemetery, Kent, Ohio.
