Obituary

Robert “Rob” Zehnal

Robert “Rob” Zehnal, 81 of Stow, Ohio, formerly of Hudson, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026, to be with his Savior Jesus Christ.
Rob was a lifelong Ohio resident who grew up in Cleveland’s Slavic Village neighborhood during the 1940’s. He was known for his steadfast faith, love for his family, quiet strength and heart for others.

Rob left high school to join the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War era. He served with distinction in telephone communications, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. His military service included assignments at Strategic Air Command Headquarters at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska and in Puerto Rico. He was proud of his service to his country and carried the values of duty, integrity, and humility throughout his life.
Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Rob built a remarkable career with AT&T, where he worked for nearly 40 years serving the Cleveland and Akron areas. He was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to doing every job well. Throughout his career, he took pride in providing dependable communications service to the communities he called home.

Rob’s greatest devotion was to his faith in Jesus Christ. He loved his local church and faithfully served as both a deacon and an elder, always willing to encourage others, lend a helping hand, and quietly meet the needs of those around him. His life reflected a deep commitment to God, his family, and his church community.
Outside of his faith and family, Rob was a devoted Cleveland sports fan. He faithfully cheered for the Cleveland Guardians, Browns, and the Cavaliers. Whether celebrating victories or enduring challenging seasons, he remained a loyal fan through it all. He enjoyed sharing those games and conversations with family and friends.
Above all, Rob was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He cherished time with his family and leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and love that will continue to influence generations to come.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Sally; his three sons, Chris (Crystal) Aaron, and Derek; his grandson, Nick; his sister, Grace (Roman); his brother, Jim; his sisters-in- law, Andrea, Janet and Stacey Heywood; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ.

Rob was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Florence Zehnal; his brother Frank and sister -in- law Doris; and his brothers Dick and Dan.
While his family grieves his passing, they rejoice in the assurance of his eternal home with the Lord. They take comfort in the promise that, because of his faith in Jesus Christ, they will see him again.

Funeral arrangements and a celebration of Rob’s life will be announced by the family at a later date.
