HUDSON - Ronald Joseph “Ron” Chernitsky, age 87, died on May 8, 2026, at home in Hudson Meadows Retirement Community, Hudson, Ohio. Born in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania, Ron spent more than 35 years as a proud member of the Hudson community, enjoying all it had to offer—including summer concerts at the Gazebo.
In high school, Ron attended Hurst High School in Mt. Pleasant and proudly returned for many reunions—Go Hurricanes! He had starring roles in the junior and senior plays and was a standout offensive lineman in football, playing end. His nickname was “Cat,” earned for his quick hands and his ability to snatch a football out of the air.
Ron was a journeyman tool and die maker at Ford Motor Company’s Walton Hills Stamping Plant and retired in 2001 after 30 years of service. An avid amateur radio operator (W8LJQ), he built his own radios from an early age and enjoyed a lifetime of learning, tinkering, and connecting with others through the hobby. He could fix—or at least happily experiment with—just about anything electronic, from testing devices to building his own computer.
Ron loved to eat—and because he loved good food, he learned to cook. He could attend a clam bake, polish off everything in the pot, and then still be ready to go out for pizza. He especially cherished time with his grandchildren, proudly following their lives and always hoping for a shirt from their colleges to wear with pride. Ron loved the outdoors—especially fishing—and treasured trips to the Outer Banks and time along the Atlantic Ocean. He enjoyed long talks and days with his special companion, Lynn Remly, and was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Parish. Ron will be remembered for the steady way he showed up—curious, capable, and always ready to tune in (W8LJQ), cast a line, catch a concert at the Gazebo, or find room for one more slice
Ron was predeceased by his wife, Priscilla Trudeau Chernitsky, and his sister, Bernadette (Chernitsky) Sands. He is survived by his son, Robert, and Robert’s wife, Sharyn, and their children, Matthias and Kathryn; his special companion, Lynn Remly; and by Priscilla’s children Ivy Rain, Peter Trudeau, and Jesse (Trudeau) Moggridge and her husband, Clive, and their children, Benjamin, Noah, Morgan, Eliza, and Courtney.
