STOW - Dr. Sam E. Rajiah, 89, entered into eternal rest on May 26, 2026.
Born on October 20, 1936, in Madurai, India, Sam was a member of the first class of Madurai Medical college where he earned his Medical Degree. He went to Liverpool, England to complete his residency and then immigrated to the United States with his family in the early 1970.s, where he made his home in Stow, Ohio. Sam practiced as a psychiatrist for many decades and was named as a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, remaining in active practice until he retired at the age of 81. Not only as a physician, but he also went on to complete an MBA as well and had a love for learning throughout.
A man of deep Christian faith, Sam was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church since 1974, where he took great joy in singing in the church choir. Music was the way he expressed his love for life and for others. He enjoyed playing the harmonica and other instruments for friends and family. Sam was a dedicated physician and cared deeply for his community. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was known most for the way he made people feel welcomed, encouraged and loved.
Sam enjoyed reading, studying philosophy, and traveling. Sam was also an avid golfer who learned the game late in life but was always striving to improve. While most golfers never achieve the prize of a hole in one, Sam earned the honored distinction twice and has the trophies to prove it. But, above all else, he cherished his role as husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, compassion, friendship and joy that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him
Sam was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Helen Rajiah; parents, James and Jeevamani Rajiah; sister, Kanaga Richmonds. He is survived by his children, Shanthi (Matt) Rubin, James (Connie) Rajiah, and Rajini (Gary) Poth; grandchildren, Rachel (Ross) Fowler, Austin (Laura) Poth, Danielle Rubin (Teddy Zamborsky), Jordan Rajiah (Phuong Tran), Sarina (Andrew) Jarvi, Samantha Rajiah, Aaron Poth (Aniston Watts), Alex Lau, and Carly Lau; great-grandchildren, Henry Poth, Sienna Fowler, Daniel Poth, Kaia Fowler.
