STOW - We mournfully announce the passing of Shirley Kiernan, 68, of Silver lake Ohio. Shirley left us on March 27, 2026, leaving us with a void that can never be filled. With Shirley's departure, we remember a life lived with immense love and a constant sense of caring.
Shirley touched the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing her. Her selflessness, warmth, and generous spirit will be remembered forever. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion that lives in all of us.
Shirley was born to Elsworth and Betty Hooser on May 7, 1957 in Toledo, Ohio. Shirley graduated from Waite high school and went on to pursue her secondary education. Shirley was passionate, warm, and kind to everyone she met. She made many friends over the years that meant a lot to her. Shirley played the violin with the Toledo Symphony, the Cleveland Symphony and many quartets over the years. She taught many students and helped them perfect the art of playing violin. Her career spanned many years where she created many life long friendships.
When Shirley met the love of her life, Barry, her focus became her family. Once Barry and Shirley welcomed their only son Jonathan, she loved him with a fiery, protective, intensity. She was his first advocate, his safe harbor, and his loudest cheerleader. Her life was defined by ensuring Barry and Jonathan knew they were loved above all else. She dedicated every ounce of her strength to their happiness and well-being.
She is preceded in death by parents, Elsworth and Betty Hooser; brothers, Darrell and William; and sister Jeanette. She is survived by her beloved husband Barry; son, Jonathan, and sister Phyllis McFarland.
A memorial service celebrating Shirley’s exceptional life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to honor Shirley’s legacy of learning and teaching by seeking out knowledge, pushing beyond the boundaries of the known and sharing these insights with others. This, we believe, would be the best tribute to her extraordinary life.
