Stephen (Steve) A. Mate

STOW - Stephen (Steve) A. Mate passed away peacefully, on March 30, 2024, after a long battle with prostate cancer.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carolyn; son, Scott (Amanda); granddaughter, Aubrielle; sister, Marge Masi, in FL; brother, Robert (Bob) (Kay), as well as nieces and nephews.

Steve was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on February 4, 1950, and came to Stow to attend Kent State University. He retired from Key Bank.

Steve loved his sports and was a member of OHSAA. For over 40 years, he officiated high school and youth football, baseball, and girls softball. He also coached his son, Scott, in Stow youth baseball. He enjoyed bowling and qualified to bowl in the Pro Am at Riviera Lanes in Fairlawn. Steve also enjoyed a round or two of golf with his special friend, Jim Anderson.

The family would like to thank Dr. Patel and staff, and Hospice of Medina County, for Steve’s comforting care.

Private services for Steve will be held at a later date.
