Sterling W. Bowes

STOW - Sterling Wallace Bowes, Sr., 88, passed away November 23, 2015, lovingly surrounded by family.

Sterling was born to Leslie H. Bowes and Myrtle Young on April 14, 1927 at Young's Corner. He attended Wadsworth High School, proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and years later received his diploma through the Honorary WWII Veterans Program. He worked and retired from General Tire. He loved to bowl, play softball, fishing, archery and woodworking. He was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Navy and was an active member of Moose Lodge #759. Most of all, he loved his family.

Preceded in death by his first wife, Nora Irene Strickland Bowes, Sterling is survived by his wife, Colleen Bowes; brother, Gary Bowes of Wadsworth; children, Patty Bowes of Akron, Sterling W. Bowes, Jr. of Indianapolis, Indiana, Tim (Vicki) Bowes of Silva Township, NC, Becky Bendel of Barberton, Rodger Bendel of Akron; step-children, George Hornyak of Arlington, TX, Hal Hornyak of Mansfield, Ohio, Frank Hornyak of Mansfield, Ohio, and Linda Scoggenes of Formy, TX; grandchildren, Roger W. (Tracy L.) Bowes of Rittman, Ohio and Angela M. Bishop (Bowes) of Rittman, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Joseph R. Bowes, Mallorie M. Collins, Max L. Bowes, Alexis I. Higgins, Brandon K. Bowes, Makenna K. Bowes and Katie L. Deeser; and great-great grandson, Elijah Sabastian Tooman.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital for their great care and compassion.

Funeral service will be Monday, November 30, 2015 at 12:30 PM at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow, Ohio 44224, where friends may call from 10:30 AM until service time. Burial will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
