Obituary of Thomas S. Hans

Thomas S. Hans, 73, passed away September 17, 2018 after an extended illness and is now free of pain and other health issues.

Born and raised in Kenmore, NY, Thom attended The University of Akron from 1962-1967 and was a mechanical engineer. Thom was a member of The Chapel since 1982 and enjoyed travelling, trains, fishing, God's many wonders in nature, and especially his church and music. Thom was a volunteer with the Department of Natural Resources observing the local paragon falcon and bald eagle populations. He also enjoyed teaching private music lessons and gave of his time and talents to many community organizations.

Preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Ida Hans, Thom is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Phyllis; sons, Tom Jr., Ted (Lillian); four grandsons; three granddaughters; one great-grandson; sister Christina (Thomas) Schultz; sisters-in-law, Rebecca "Becky" (Bill) Holmlund, Elizabeth "Liz" Johnson, and many other loving family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Heather Knoll Nursing & Rehabilitation for their care of Thom; Pastor Jim Mitchell, Pastor David Burnham, Pastor Knute Larson, and Pastor Isaac Van Epps for your mentoring, council and friendship, and Tau Kappa Epsilon {BP} and the Akron POPs Orchestra.

A memorial service will be held at The Chapel, in Memorial Chapel, 135 Fir Hill, Akron, Ohio 44304 on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 6:30 PM, and where friends may call from 5 PM until service time. A light reception will follow the service at 7:30 PM. Contributions in Thom's memory may be made to either The Chapel or Alzheimer's Association.
