Obituary

STOW - Zar passed away on June 6th. He suffered from vascular disease and other medical issues.

He was married to Vivian D’Antonio Reader for 36½ years. Zar was the quiet member of the usually talkative and boisterous D’Antonio family and our go-to sports expert. He was a great loving husband, and a kind, gracious, thoughtful, and loving person. He especially liked to entertain our children and grandchildren when they were young.

Zar was born on July 31, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan and moved with his family to the village of Wood Creek Farms, later incorporated into Farmington Hills, Michigan. Known by the nickname Zick, he loved sports, especially baseball. He was a percussionist in the Detroit Country Day School high school band and in the marching band in his college years at

Brown University in Rhode Island. Professionally, he worked in banking services and programming. Zar and Vivian met in retailing at Jordan Marsh Co., in Boston, Massachusetts.

They lived in the Boston area until moving to their first house in Stow, Ohio about 25 years ago to be closer to family and to start a slower-paced life “in the country”. Zar passed after seeing most of his nieces and nephews, including his oldest nephews who travelled from Florida and Texas. His sister Susie, from Texas, was also by his side, as were his wife and other family members. Zar was preceded in death by his parents Zar Anthony Reader Jr. and Barbara McDowell Reader and his brother William McDowell Reader. He was dearly loved by numerous family members and friends.

Calling hours are scheduled at the Redmon Funeral Home in Stow, on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. The funeral service will immediately follow. The burial service will be at a future date.

Zar is now free of pain and in the warmth and happiness of heaven.

R.I.P. Zar, we love you and will miss you.
